What happens when you apply the timeless logic of a PhD in Screenwriting to the frontier of Artificial Intelligence? At a recent internal Meta Hackathon, my team set out to answer that by stress-testing AI characters against the “Social Code” of storytelling.
Our project, which applied Pixar’s storytelling frameworks to AI character creation, was awarded “Best Pitch”. This win validates a core principle of The Narrative Lab: that whether you are writing a 685-episode adaptation like Ugly Betty or developing a virtual AI entity, the rules of character arc and dramatic conflict remain the same.
The Mission: By treating AI development as a “Narrative Engineering” challenge, we ensure that characters are not just safe, but relatable and resilient. This methodology—interrogating a protagonist to find their breaking point—is the same rigor I bring to every script evaluation and editorial workshop.
